Kitchen Renovation

Updated: Sep 25, 2020

When we first decided to buy this house we knew the kitchen would be first to go. The cabinets were falling apart and the L shaped island made the kitchen feel tight. We knew we needed to be smart about the space and really thought through how we wanted to design the space.

The first step was to remove EVERYTHING! We even had to redo the hardwood floors because they were not in good shape. Plus why not since we were working with a blank slate. Because it felt so dark we went with a light colored hardwood floor to brighten everything up.

I had lot of fun designing this kitchen. Because the kitchen was so small I designed it to be very clean and lighter to makes the kitchen bigger.

I always wanted gray kitchen cabinets and was excited to find ones in our price range. I didn't want anything traditional. Modern is more of my kind of style. I wanted something that’s very clean and slick. Even though the kitchen was small I still wanted to add an island. That would give me more space for food prep and open the space up.

I went with black kitchen appliances because the stainless steel’s appliances would had been too much with the gray cabinets and that is not the look I was going for .

Kitchen Backsplash

Finding a kitchen backsplash was very difficult because they were too expensive and I wasn’t willing to spend much money. I knew I wanted dark glass tiles and something clean. When I saw this backsplash I thought it was unique because of the glass tiles mixed in but when I actually saw it on the wall I realized that I did not like the repeated dark silver tiles. when I told my husband he was not happy to say the least, so I just decided to take it out myself. It was a pain trying to get them out one at a time but I knew I wouldn't like it if I left them. It just makes the kitchen look way too busy and busy I do not do.

I’m glad I did take it out because I like the way it came together in the end.
